Parents' Guide

How to protect your children in the digital world.

Your Role as a Parent

Children today grow up with smartphones and the internet. As a parent, you are the first and most important line of defense against online dangers.

Practical Steps

  • Have open, honest conversations about the internet — no topic is off limits
  • Set screen time limits using built-in phone parental controls
  • Keep devices in common areas of the home, not bedrooms
  • Know your child's friends online just as you know their offline friends
  • Teach them never to share their location, school name, or photos with strangers
  • Monitor app downloads and review privacy settings together
  • Make sure they know to come to you if something makes them uncomfortable

Warning Signs to Watch For

  • Becoming secretive or anxious about their phone
  • Switching screens quickly when you walk by
  • Withdrawing from family and friends
  • Unexplained gifts or money
  • Distress or mood changes after using devices
